ABS IN HYBRO
We interviewed Norbert Schulz. Norbert is the breeding station manager in Wulfsode and responsible for seed production and a lot of other strategic topics in Hybro. Norbert is also the application manager of ABS Seed in Hybro.
HYBRO Saatzucht GmbH & Co.KG is one of the leading seed breeding companies in the breeding of hybrid and population rye in Germany and Europe.
At two breeding stations in the Lüneburg Heath and in the Uckermark the initial breeding of new rye varieties takes place. Numerous test sites at home and abroad guarantee the best possible development of new varieties. Hybro also produces the new varieties in larger quantities directly with farmers. In 2 stations one in Wulfsode and one in Kleptow 45 permanent people are employed. Additional seasonal workers work from May to October.
All varieties are sold by SAATEN-UNION GmbH, based in Isernhagen. The extensive program of Saaten-Union includes more than 200 varieties such as: wheat, durum, triticale, barley, rapeseed, oats, sorghum, cover crops, corn etc.
ABS Seed was implemented in Hybro in spring 2015. Hybro needed a system, which can support their processes in hybrid rye seed multiplication, cleaning, certification, blending, treating and packing, including quality tests. On top of that the software should give an overview of the different generations in the rye seeds. A seed specific solution, which fits the requirements of HYBRO best, was found in ABS Seed.
ABS Seed is the main software in use in Hybro. Today in total approximately 35 users are working in ABS. The whole processes from first multiplication to delivery of the seed at customers sites, including quality tests, complaint management, etc. is managed in ABS Seed. The system can work with interfaces to other programs and requirements from Hybro are built in in ABS Seed.
In general ABS Seed provides Hybro and Saaten-Union a detailed overview of seed available to sell. This is of course one of the main functionalities a logistic solution should offer.
Next to Hybro ABS was implemented in Nordsaat, another shareholder of the Saaten-Union. The “go live” of ABS in Nordsaat has recently successfully been finished.
