ABS NEWS SEPTEMBER 2023
Where to meet ABS during the coming period?
Meet us at Seed Meets Technology
ABS is present at the Seed Meets Technology event September 26-28 in Booth number 4. Besides being present, we organize our lecture “It’s all in the App” on Tuesday at 9 am and Thursday at 10 am. This lecture is about our NEW stocktaking and inventory management Apps. For more information visit: www.seedmeetstechnology.com
ABS is a software company from Grootebroek, developing software for agriculture, horticulture and floriculture. We develop software for this branch for almost 25 years now. The main software developed by ABS is ABS Seed.
Managing inventory of living products, like seeds, is not always supported in the best way by general inventory software’s. Our ABS Seed software is specialized in managing inventory of seeds, independent of the crop involved. Whether your company has inventory of parent seed, different generations of seed, prepacked or in bulk, flower seeds, vegetable seeds, grass or other field crops, treated or primed, with ABS Seed you can manage your inventory properly. You always have real time data for the quantity and quality of your seed batches at your fingertips.
And of course, next to inventory management, ABS Seed can also help managing your seed productions, quality control and sales. Even Sales Forecast and Seed Production planning can be done in ABS Seed. ABS Seed is THE logistic software for seed!
If you want to control and manage your seed stock more efficiently our ABS Seed Apps is the right tool!
In the lectures we will introduce our Stocktaking app and Inventory Management app, and maybe a sneak preview of the Sample app as well!
-> Tuesday September 26 at 09:00 in the cabbage room

ABS Seed for Smith Seeds
For this newsletter we interviewed Dayle Jemmett, the General Manager of Smith Seeds.
“Smith Seeds is an export Vegetable seed production company, based in the South Island of New Zealand. Our main products are production of Spinach, Radish, Beet, Chard, Peas, Asian brassicas and many other items. These are grown by our own customer’s stock seeds for multiplication and then re-exported.
After the platform /program Smith Seeds was originally on was not usable anymore, we needed a “seed” based program that also had a link with accounts: A software, which is specific to our business.”
During spring 2022 Smith Seeds went live with ABS Seed and since then 12 users are active in the program. Mainly in Production, Inventory and Admin. “ABS Seed also supports the processes of Production, Inventory and Xero integration.
The greatest advantage of ABS Seed is Seed focus!” according to Dayle.
The implementation brought along some minor challenges with grower settlements, split payments and account recognition via Xero. These were solved by the ABS technical team, online and by email learning/training.
In the future Smith Seeds is planning to incorporate another seed company they have purchased, which is a production and sales company of other types of seeds. Incorporation of a new company within the existing ABS Seed settings, is done on a regular base by ABS and even though each implementation is unique, we are confident also this new implementation will be successful!
Dayle Jemmett – General Manager
Dayle manages the subsidiary company Premium Peas Ltd, along with the seed production for both Smith Seeds and Premium Peas and as the account manager for our European customers.

Managing inventory of your seed stock
Managing inventory of your seed stock is brought to the next level by using our ABS Inventory, Expedition and Processing Apps.
If you want to control and manage your seed stock more efficiently our ABS Seed Apps can help. The Apps are connected to the ABS Seed software, the best software to manage your seed inventory. The operators in your warehouse now have a tool to enter real time data of inventory in ABS using their phone. They can scan barcodes, click, print labels and enter weight in the Apps easily.
In this newsletter we focus on 3 newly developed Apps of our series of 8 different Inventory, Processing and Expedition Apps (IPE Apps). Recently we released our new Stocktaking, Inventory Management and Sampling Apps.
The Stocktaking App is intended to do PERIODIC inventory checks on your seed inventory
The warehouse manager can prepare stocktaking lists in ABS Seed, for the people working in the warehouse. Then, either the locations to check or the batches to recheck, appear on the stocktaking App on the mobile device of the employee. When arriving at the location, the location and batch labels are scanned and the employee has to fill the real packaging, number of packages and weight. Every check will be real time in ABS Seed. The warehouse manager receives the results that contain too much difference from the norms in a list, to check and decide what to do.
This way the warehouse manager has a tool for thorough and periodic control of his seed stock.
The inventory management App is intended to do DAILY checks on your seed inventory
The checks you can do in the warehouse using the Inventory management App are: printing of new labels, booking of inventory differences, splitting weight of batches of seed and change of packagings.
The sampling App
is for planning and organizing to take samples from the current stock. For example, if you want to periodically have a germination sample done on your current stock, this app will show you not only which batch needs to be sampled (for instance based on the expiry date of the batch in ABS Seed), but also the routing of taking the samples in the warehouse! Successful ISF golf tournament for ABS
ABS is looking back to a successful World Seed Congress in Cape Town last June.
We (Ineke Leidelmeijer and Dorien van Engelenburg) were happy to see some of our clients again and we met a lot of new interesting contacts from all around the world. We had refreshing discussions, have shared a lot of ideas and were able to give different ABS software presentations.
Above all we loved to catch up with our ABS clients, it is always a pleasure to see you!
The day before the congress started, we had a kick-off with the International Seed Federation golf tournament sponsored by Incotec. Dorien van Engelenburg of ABS, was attending for ABS and was in a flight with 2 guys from Incotec South Africa (Stef Martinuzzi and Jacques Borchardt) and Jeremy Johnson from SPS NZ. This team and another team (with our client George Crookham attending!) were the joint winners of the tournament.
The cash prize was a donation for a charity of our choice. We have chosen to support Afrika Tikkun ZA (website Afrika Tikkun ZA), which was introduced by our client David Malan from Klein Karoo at the ISF 2023 opening ceremony. It is a pleasure to support local South African children with after school activities, so their parents are able to work to earn enough money for food, school etc. All other projects they support you can check on their website!
Thank you @Incotec – Erik Jan Bartels. We look forward to see what next year’s World Seed Congress 2024 in Rotterdam will bring us!
